Class description: This class is an advanced class and is not a suitable class for the beginning rifle builder. In this class each student will start with a stock blank that has the barrel inlet and the ram rod hole drilled. Each student will learn the method for laying out on the stock blank all of the required locations and the proper relationships of the lock, triggers, butt plate, length of pull, cast off, stock architecture, the location of the ram rod thimbles. In addition each student will learn how to make and install ram rod pipe the toe plate and side plate and nose cap. Each student will be instructed on how to forge an Iron butt plate and trigger guard. Due to the intense nature of this class and the amount of handwork that will be involved it is very doubtful that students will leave this class with a working rifle. That said I do feel that the major components will be made and installed and some of the stock shaping started and each project to the point that the student can complete their projects at home. Each student will be responsible for obtaining their own stock blank and barrel and having the barrel and ram rod hole drilled before the class starts.
Class description: In this class each student will assemble a kit of their choosing. It can be a rifle, smoothbore, trade gun, pistol in brass or iron. Each student will be responsible for supplying their kits for this class. In this class each student will learn the proper relationship of all of the major components and their function. The goal for the students of this class will be to get all of the major components assembled and functioning by the end of the class. Finishing instructions will be gone over in the class. All of the finish work will be done by the student at home after the class has been completed. If a student finishes his assembly early the finishing process can be started in the class. Many of the students of previous classes finished their projects enough to shoot their projects before leaving for home.
Class description: This class is really going to be an open class and flexible in regards to what each student wants to do. I have had students ask me to have a finish what they started class. So I am going to open this class up for that. I will also accept students that want to build a rifle kit in this class. I will also take students that want to learn the beginning basics of hammer and chisel engraving in this class.
Please have your chisels sharpened before the class starts. They will be factory sharpened when you get them; this is not sharp enough to do gun work. If you do not know how to sharpen them please contact me before class for help. I do not want to spend the first day of class sharpening chisels.
